An anonymous comment that is intelligent is one of the greatest compliments a blog post can be served; beaten out only by a non-anonymous comment from someone you don't know - but it is of course difficult for someone who doesn't know you to know that a non-anonymous comment comes from someone you didn't know.
Thus anonymous comments can serve as a separating equilibrium device if such things exist.
